Marthe Arnu

Marthe Arnu is baptized on 28 March 1632, at the church of Saint-Marguerite in La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, France.

She is the daughter of Marc Arnu and Louise Brodeur. His godfather is Jean de Saint-Gui who baptized the child at home and the godmother is Maude Arnault.

Her father died and her mother married Jean Sauviot at a second marriage. From this alliance Marguerite Sauviot was born around 1641 and Jean Sauviot around 1646 in La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, France.

Marthe arrived in Canada in 1658, along with her mother, Louise Brodeur, her half brother and sister, Jean and Marguerite.

On September 2, 1658, Marthe Arnu, aged 26, signed a marriage contract with Pierre Richaume dit Petrus, in Montreal, before the notary Bénigne Basset Deslauriers.

Pierre was born, about 1636, at Hiers-Brouage, bishopric of Saintes in Saintonge. He is the son of Simon and Catherine Bélier.
